Dedicated to Ross Ulbricht, those who stood by him, and those he stood for.
Life is everywhere
Artist: Pepelangelo
Tbilisi, Georgia, 2025
Artist’s note:
For me, sculpture is when you take something lifeless and cold, and turn it into something alive and warm. From non-life — into life.
When I saw one of the themes for the art gallery at the Bitcoin 2025 conference, I didn’t even consider painting Ross’s portrait - I instantly knew it had to be a sculpture. I wanted to capture a person returning to normal life from a place of unfreedom — so I made him as if he’s emerging or breaking out of stone. This story moves me because of its deep humanity. I saw how much emotion the team of Bitcoin Magazine went through all this time, and it’s clear that Ross’s family went through even more. And how symbolic and tender it was: Ross walked out holding a living plant in his hand. That moment felt like a closed circle of care for one another. That is what life is. I believe the will to live is a powerful force. It seeps through even the hardest circumstances. We hold on to each other, we support each other - And the love for life overcomes despair.
