From the series, “Fuego Fiduciario” or “Fiatfire”, an exploration of hyperinflation in Venezuela, The Liberator (9%) is also the first part of a triptych, one of three photographs of the same slowly burning 100-bolivares note, featuring a portrait of Simon Bolivar, a Venezuelan statesman who played a key role in the independence movements in Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Panama, and Bolivia. Like many other national heroes featured on paper currency, he has become a symbol of economic decay and hyperinflation. (Interest rates in Venezuela reached as high as 63,000% in 2018).
