60 Opendimes illuminate this geometric wire sculpture. The outermost shell is a truncated icosahedron consisting of twenty hexagons and twelve pentagons. A 60 atom carbon molecule (chemical formula C60, also known as buckminsterfullerene or buckyball) has the same structure. The shape resembles a football (soccer) ball, and coincidentally, the diameter of OD60 is roughly 2.1x a regulation ball. While C60 is sensitive to light, OD60 produces light just as Bitcoin is a beacon of hope and truth in a world of darkness and uncertainty.
About the artist:
Justin Schlecter creates multidimensional geometric wire sculptures inspired by forms in pure mathematics, chemistry, and nature. His favorite medium is a modular building system that he invented. This building system uses steel wire and brass tubing held together only by the forces of tension and compression. He uses additional materials to express complex ideas and feelings by extending or interrupting the geometric patterns. After decades of work in secret, the art show at Pacific Bitcoin marks his public debut and the first opportunity to acquire one of his unique pieces.
