SATOSHIDICE refers to a blockchain-based game that started 2012. A player chooses a bet, say 10x with a winning chance of 9.7%, and sends a certain amount of bitcoin to an operator wallet. The player's transaction hash and an unknown secret are hashed and the first part of it is used as a random number between 0 and 65,535. If the number is below a threshold, in the example 65,535*9.7%, the operator pays out 10x of the sent bitcoin amount and zero otherwise. In the early days, SatoshiDice was among the most popular Bitcoin addresses. In 2013, SatoshiDice was sold for 126,315 BTC, worth around $12 million at that time.
SATOSHIDICE was an invisible Counterparty token. The first attempt to issue the token took place on January 19th, 2014, just six days after TEST. Since the wallet did not have enough XCP, the transaction failed. However, this attempt was recorded by Counterparty transaction number 1,952. On December 15, 2021, after being invisible on the Counterparty explorer for almost eight years, SATOSHIDICE was successfully claimed and came back to live.
The artwork is rich in details. Check out the references to Counterparty’s first asset, TEST, the left lady’s necklace with the Bitcoin logo, or the right lady’s tattoo, which symbols the 2017 hard fork (the satoshidice.com game proceeds operating on BCH). And obviously, the dude in the middle does not need much explanation.
The numbers on the dice display key data: 6 indicates that the first SATOSHIDICE issuance attempt was only six days after TEST was claimed, 19114 refers to the date of the first SATOSHIDICE issuance attempt, and 200 is SATOSHIDICE’s total supply. In the above mentioned 10x game, any randomly drawn number (symbolled by throwing the dice) below 6,357 means winning the bet. Hence, if the dice shows a 6 or 200 the Satoshi-dude would win 10 times his bet amount.
