About the artist.

Hope IG was born in Eastern Germany (GDR), living the first 20 years of her life in a country that did not value personal freedom and liberties. All companies were state-run, wages and prices were state-controlled. The Eastern-German government classified goods into either satisfying “real” or “false” needs. Bread and housing were subsidized and cheap, but there were shortages of almost everything else. For example, the waiting-time for a new car was about 18 years; bananas like all tropical fruits were rare. The government robbed money of its ability to coordinate economic activity, causing the living standard in eastern Germany to fall behind in comparison to the West.
Citizens were not allowed to convert Eastern Marks into the currencies of the West; nor were they allowed to travel to the West: Hope lived less than 5 miles away from the Inner-German border - but visiting the West was strictly forbidden. If you dared to try, border guards were under orders to "shoot to kill".

In a country where everybody was supposed to be equal, there were always a few that were more equal than others: relationships with the governing party were often the most important component in any major decision: the job you can choose, the house you can build, or a car you want to buy.

Today, Germany is reunited; citizens are free to travel and the Euro they earn can be freely traded. Yet, its current government routinely spends more than it earns. Central Bank money printing is causing the highest inflation rates since World-War-II. This cost is borne by the vulnerable every-day citizens and benefits those who own hard assets which tend to be the wealthy minority.

Bitcoin has the chance to change this dynamic. Bitcoin is global hard money that cannot be censored. It is a money that is hard to confiscate and easy to transact and verify. And most importantly, Bitcoin cannot be inflated. Bitcoin separates money from the state. And thus, Bitcoin is hope. Hope for freedom, for liberty, for a fairer society - where everyone can pursue happiness.
