This collection features four original court sketches by Vicki Behringer, created during the very first public court appearance of Ross Ulbricht in 2013, shortly after his arrest in San Francisco. Behringer was the only artist allowed in the courtroom that day, making these the only known sketches from this historic hearing. Ulbricht was later tried and sentenced in New York, but it was in San Francisco where he was first detained and presented before a judge, the moment captured in these drawings.
Ross Ulbricht, founder of the Silk Road online marketplace, became a central figure in global debates over cryptocurrency and digital privacy. Following his arrest, in this very hearing, the Silk Road marketplace was beginning to collapse, marking a pivotal moment in his story. Ulbricht was later pardoned in 2025 by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, which adds even greater historical significance to this set.
The sketches were acquired directly from the artist in 2025 and have never changed hands. They have been licensed to be featured in major media outlets, including NBC, Bloomberg, and Business Insider.
Each sketch measures 11 × 15 inches, and the four are sold together as a set.
Included in the package are:
4 original court sketches of Ross
A newspaper article reporting on the hearing
Four certificates of authenticity, one for each sketch featuring one of the images
Please note: the fifth sketch of Ross Ulbricht alone is not included in this sale, nor are the postcard reproductions, shown in one image.
The artist, Vicki Behringer, retains all copyrights to the artwork. Purchase of the originals grants ownership of the physical pieces only. The buyer may not reproduce, duplicate, or license the images in any form, including for documentaries or publications. Licensing for media use is available directly from the artist.
