Monk with a Wine Glass/Pepe the Drinking Monk (Pepelangelo, oil on canvas, 2017)

This piece is one of the artist's most famous works, and one of the most prolific Pepe oil paintings. It was first sold to a UK buyer in March 2017. The artist made multiple original oil painted copies of her early works due to their popularity at the time. This is a secondary sale from a collector who is likely to be the third owner of this work.

The artist, gallery curator and current owner are 99 percent sure that this is the original "Monk with a wine glass" painting. Unfortunately, we did not receive confirmation from the first buyer however all of the data (that all resales took place in the UK alongside the exact set of paintings ordered by the "same" first buyer in 2017) suggests that this is indeed the FIRST Monk painting by Pepelangelo. The image of the original is frequently shared on Twitter and has become an iconic Pepe artwork.

We have attached close images of the original work exhibited at the London gallery and the scanned image of the first Monk painting for cross reference purposes. The imperfections and identifiable unique points appear to be identical in both, but we invite buyers to take a closer look to be sure.
