Genesis Address Sculpture is made from solid aluminum and inspired from my print run from last year. It is the first in a series of 21 Genesis Address sculptures with each being unique. This will be the only black version of the sculpture ever created.
To create Genesis Address Sculpture, I learned numerous investment casting techniques. First, a 3D version of the artwork was printed in resin. This positive version was used to create a negative mold. A duplicate of the mold was then cast in wax with molten metal poured into the cavity. Lastly, the aluminum was sanded and powder coated with a gloss black finish.
Genesis Address harkens back to my roots as a Bitcoin street artist. In 2013, I would scrawl public and private keys around San Francisco hoping passersby would interact with them. This was my rudimentary way of gauging public interest in BTC and whether or not it made sense to pursue as a career. It's also where the name cryptograffiti came from (cryptography + graffiti).

On January 3rd, 2009 the first 50 bitcoin ever issued were sent to the address, and whether by design or a bug, this subsidy cannot be spent. People still frequently send BTC to the address as a thank you to Satoshi for his creation.
