This copy of Freedom from the Known by J. Krishnamurti was in John McAfee’s possession during his incarceration in Spain.

Krishnamurti’s work challenges the reader to abandon conditioned beliefs, attachments, and identities. It is a book about inner freedom, a concept that resonated deeply with John at a moment when physical freedom was denied.

In the back of this book, John McAfee wrote:

“I once had everything. I now have nothing. Inside these prison bars, I am more free than ever.

The things you believe you own, ultimately own you.”

Written not for an audience, but for himself, the inscription reveals a rare moment of clarity and acceptance from a man defined by excess, conflict, and defiance. It reflects a philosophical alignment between McAfee and Krishnamurti: that freedom is not granted by governments, wealth, or status but is realized internally, through detachment.
